Let’s face it: being a teenager is hard. School is becoming more difficult. Social pressures are huge. You’re having to start making decisions about your future and you’re beginning to take on more independence within your family. In the midst of all of this change and growth, sometimes adolescents feel like they have no one to listen to them or who truly understands.

According to Mission Australia’s latest annual survey, the top three personal concerns of teenagers aged 15 to 19 were coping with stress (43%), mental health (34%) and body image (33%). Within these concerns are experiences of:

Support is available

A counsellor can be that warm voice and helping hand to get your teen through a time of hopelessness or struggle.

How does adolescent counselling help?

Teenagers often put a mask on to protect themselves from the outside world. Our counsellors will join them with deep empathy to understand the world from their perspective and see behind the mask. It is from this place that deeper issues of low self-esteem, hopelessness and destructive behaviour can be addressed. Accessing support and developing coping strategies will not only help your teenager through their current situation but will also benefit them as they grow into young adults and face new challenges.

Your first adolescent counselling session

The first Adolescent Counselling session begins with a five-minute to ten-minute chat between parent and counsellor to understand what may be going on for the teen. Then using this valuable insight, your counsellor meets with the teenager to assist them explore the issues which they are struggling with.

Teenagers leave the session with tools to help them begin to cope and regulate their emotions.
